Uptown

Here’s a project in Mount Pleasant that flew below our radar, and has been completed for a while now. It’s been built on the former parking lot of the Biltmore Hotel, where Kingsway and Prince Edward meet. Several years ago it was a 7-storey project with a different architect and developer – one who over-reached financially just as the market shrank for a while. The project was redesigned at nine storeys and over 100 units, and Concord Pacific took the development on with Linda Baker’s design initially showing a dark brown brick. The final product is a light buff, and probably better for it. The Biltmore is currently getting a makeover as non-market housing, and with a rental block down the street and the Rize project at Broadway there will be quite a few more residents in this spot.
